News
Anybody who has ever played at Maroochy River will know that it can be windy – very windy. But, lucky for us, the winds were gentle on Sunday, and the rain stayed away, when some of the best young golfers in south-east Queensland assembled for the Maroochy River Junior Open where none of the 100-plus competitors, nor Andrew Darr (Junior Convenor) and Danielle Hill (Golf Australia), were going to waste a minute of their good fortune.
Maddison Kelly (Noosa) and Joshua Hirsch (Royal Pines) put in brilliant two-under-par performances to win the event, which incorporated the Qld – JGQ 18 Hole Points Challenge, cancelled earlier in the year and rescheduled due to the extreme weather at the time.
To witness both organisations joining forces to resolve what was a problem situation and turning it into a positive outcome was a win for everyone concerned and Maroochy River and Golf Australia should be applauded for their endeavour.
It gives everyone a good feeling when such a high-quality field take to the fairways to test their games and hopefully qualify for some of the many championships (invitations) that this tournament had on offer.
This was particularly so for Joshua Hirsch (Royal Pines), along with Nathan Jackson (Noosa), Jaxon Smith (Cooroy) and Noah Miller (Meadowbrook), who were gross winners in their respective divisions.
Gross winners in the girls’ divisions were Maddison Kelly (Noosa), Ionna Muir (Maroochy River) and Merrin Bartholomaues (Cooroy).
A huge congratulations to Safina Kyprianou (p4 below) for playing the perfect 9 iron into the 101-metre par three fourth hole with her first shot of the day.

Because this was a combined event, two Course Cups were to be presented. But, with three players sharing the nett honours on 67, The Invincibles Tour has decided that all three competitors - Janie Carroll (Royal Queensland, p3 above), Jett Weizman (Maroochy River, p2 below) and Samara Dryden (Peregian p1 below) - would go through to contest the Gold Cup of Cups Championship, which will be hosted by the magnificently presented Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort on Sunday the 20th of November 2022, followed immediately by The Invincibles Annual Junior Presentation Dinner!

The Brett Martell Inter–Club Team Shield points are as follows: Maroochy River (205) earned the four points for winning round 8 of the 2022 Inter Club Team Shield, Noosa (210) earned two points for second, with Noosa Springs third on (212) in a countback with Hope Island to earn one point.
Highlights on the day included: Xavier Zischke’s brilliant 10-metre putt from off the third green that dropped into the hole to the great delight of everyone watching, Chase Lear’s chip in from 30 metres on the 5th, and Blair Green driving the green to within five feet on the 326m par four first hole to set up an eagle, and Glenda Misso’s brilliant photo of one of our juniors playing out of a bunker, which were just a few of the many, many highlights during the day.
Another fantastic highlight was witnessing young brother and sister duo, Xavier, and Zara Zischke, (Caloundra, p3-4 above) going head-to-head in the four-hole division, which Xavier won for his first ever victory with a score of 17. Zara recorded a 21.
The boys’ nine-hole division went to Rory McLean (Wynnam, p1) on 41, with Chase Lear (Maroochy River, p2) second on 42.
The girls’ nine-hole division was won by Jazarah Kamu (Meadowbrook, p3) on 47, with Bethany Bartholomaeus (Cooroy, p4) second with 47.
