News

In perfect conditions, at one of Australia’s premier golf courses, Royal Queensland’s Mikayla Dyal staged an outstanding performance on Sunday to become the 2022 Noosa Springs Junior Classic champion. She did so courtesy of a round that could have been anything but, as is the nature of golf, Mikayla made a couple of unforced errors on the back nine but …

Despite those blemishes, she finished with a very respectable one under par 71. “I let it slip,” Mikayla said, “but I am happy with a one under. I feel as though my game is coming together, just in time for the IBF Classic at Twin Waters next Sunday.”

Young 12-year-old Tin Can Bay member, Chase Rendell, put in an equally impressive performance, shooting 77 to become the boys’ champion.

Mikayla and Chase (p1 and 2 below) qualified for The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship, which will be hosted by the very generous and supportive Peregian, Twin Waters and Pelican Waters Golf Clubs, along with Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort, during the last week of next year’s September school holidays (Sunday, September 24th to Wednesday September 27th, 2023-TBC).

Chase and Tin Can Bay clubmate Oakley Hall (p3), along with Michela Samuels (Royal Queensland-p4), all finished on 68 nett, with Oakley winning net honours and taking the Course Cup on a countback. Because Oakley and Chase had already qualified for the Gold Cup of Cups, Michela qualified to contest The Invincibles Gold Cup of Cups Championship, which will be hosted by the magnificently presented Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort, on Sunday, November 20, followed immediately by The Invincibles Annual Junior Presentation Dinner.

The “Brett Martell” Invincibles Inter-Club Team Shield points went to Maroochy River. Their four points gave them an unassailable lead for this year’s title. Virginia came second to earn two points, with Tin Can Bay earning one point for third.

On behalf of The Invincibles Team and their members we would like to thank the wonderful team at Noosa Springs for hosting another fantastic day out.

We extend thanks and appreciation to the team in the Pro Shop, office, the ground staff, caterers and bar staff for not only putting on a wonderful day, but most importantly, as is usually the case, for making everyone feel so welcome.

Pictured above is Joshua Bell (Noosa Springs p2) and Merrin Bartholomaeus (Cooroy p3) who were the nett runners-up.

The 9- hole division saw another tough battle between close friends and rivals Chase Lear and Samuel Wilson (both from Maroochy River). It came down to the last putt of the day with the boys finishing on 39 and 40, respectively.

Rylie Swart, also from Maroochy River, won the best nett section with 32.

The Tour would like to acknowledge Callaway Australia for their very generous sponsorship and support of not only the Noosa Springs Junior Classic, but The Invincibles Tour in general. It is fair to say none of this would be possible without their support, and the support of organisations like them.

The Tour, on behalf of everyone who participated at the Noosa Springs Junior Classic (especially Graeme), would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to Lee Coghlan and Andrew Darr for their incredible support throughout the day, particularly with scoring and results during presentations. Their input and feedback was invaluable and very much appreciated.

Highlights included: Ellianna MacRae and Oakley Hall’s approaches to the fourth, Chase Rendell’s up and down from the pot on four to save par, Lilly Surasen’s excellent birdie on five, Rory Habermann’s brilliant approach on the fourth, and Conner Clarke’s gritty effort in rolling three pars off in a row after taking an 11 on the par five fifth, Ty Swartz’s incredible par on four, Chase Lear and Ben Cox both birdieing the eighth, along with Mikayla Dyal who chipped in for birdie on seven. They were just a few of the many highlights on display during a great day’s golf.

A major highlight was witnessing our juniors and their parents working together – as they always do - to help make our golf days an enjoyable experience for everyone.

We know there are going to be times when our golf goes off the rails, and we fall behind, but it is fantastic to witness everyone working together on pace of play. We appreciate seeing the parents raking out bunkers and doing everything they can to support the competitors and help keep the game flowing smoothly, and if we all keep doing the little things, then we believe everyone will benefit in the long run.

If you do happen to see or hear of anything special happening at one of our Invincibles events (or any event for that matter) please don’t sit on it, forward details through via text to Graeme (0417 783 848) so we can all enjoy the moment.

Their support helps us enormously with the promotion and development of Junior Golf on the Sunshine Coast which is something we don’t take for granted and very much appreciate.....

We would also like to make special mention of The Invincibles Committee who do an excellent job behind the scenes to make sure The Tour runs well, in particular Joss Quirk, Frank Schmidt, and Neil Charkow. They give their time so willingly to help at events, behind the scenes or with The Invincibles website in the hope of making sure that your golfing experience is just that much more enjoyable.
