Congratulations to Zoe Maxwell (Virginia) and Travis Robbie (Southport) on their brilliant performances in winning The Invincibles 2019 IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship, that was hosted by Peregian Golf Course, Twin Waters, Pelican Waters and Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort from the 29th of September to the 2nd of October, where Zoe………..

Was joint leader or leader from day one with rounds of 72-70-80-74=296.

All up I was happy with the way I played, Zoe said. Days one and two were just perfect, that got me off to a good start, but the overnight storms that came in at Pelican made things a bit tough, but I was pleased with the way I handled it.

The final round here at Noosa Springs was just perfect, what a brilliant venue and way to finish the Masters, Zoe went on to say.

Travis Robbie had a much tougher track to his title win after trailing Daniel Cho (Indooroopilly) Cooper Clarke (Noosa) and Baxter Smith (Bribie Island) by as much as four shots after day 2 but came home with two brilliant sub-par rounds of 70 and 71 to record an overall score of 75-75-70-71=291.

Travis went on to say that the Championship was brilliant, it was well organised and to play on these four magnificent courses was incredible, it was just a fantastic championship to play in.

The boy’s nett division went to Baxter Smith with rounds of 69-71-77-71=288 who was very surprised to win an award, I didn’t really expect it he said. It has been a great four days though, the courses are incredible, outside Pelican that coped a bashing from the overnight storms heading into day 3, but even then it was in pretty good condition, The Invincibles Masters has been a great Championship to contest.

The courses are special and their staff have been very supportive, it’s been fantastic Baxter said.

Unfortunately in the girls nett division, it was acknowledged at presentation that Dhiya Rampersad (Pacific) had defended her title and was awarded the trophy on a c/b with Lydia Shackell (Hervey Bay) but after close scrutiny of the cards it was realised (through no fault of either Dhiya or Lydia) that the wrong handicap had been applied on the last day, which meant that Lydia should have won by one shot with rounds of 70-72-70-73=285!

As this was of no fault of Dhiya or Lydia, it being a glitch in our scoring, we would like to extend our deepest apologies to both girls and their families for any frustration or inconvenience caused.

This means that Lydia is the official nett winner!

It is and will always remain a priority and policy of The Invincibles Tour, that if they witness or are the cause of any injustice, unfairness or discrepancies, that they will follow up “despite any embarrassment caused” to make sure any wrongs are righted.

A major highlight for the championship was witnessing the friendship and comradery that’s on display between our juniors and the parents, and the sportsmanship that was on display, it’s just magic and really makes for a fantastic atmosphere.

Another major highlight on day four was the pace of play “Just Brilliant” for all contestants to be in within four hours and five minutes was exceptional and certainly makes for a much more pleasant day for everyone!

Other highlights during round four were: Tyler Quaill’s approach to the second that hit the flagstick and 20cm from the hole for a tap in birdie and followed that up with another birdie on 3, Josh Holbrook’s birdie on 3, Liam Dawson’s brilliant tee shot and putt on 4 for birdie, followed up with another on 5, Dhiya Rampersad’s run of birdies on 5, 6 and 7 after sinking a massive five metre putt, Approach shots from Poppy Harrington and Mia Lines and putts on 12 for birdies, James Riseley’s approach to 18 to set up a birdie and Baxter Smiths monster eighteen metre put on 18 in front of a huge gallery to record a well-received birdie, which were just a few of the many highlights during day four of The Invincibles Junior Masters!

The Tour on behalf of everyone that participated. would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to Daniel Morrison (Peregian G.C) Steve Hutchison (Twin Waters) Andrew Kenny (Pelican Waters) and Mark Brady (Noosa Springs - who are the respective Golf Directors and Managers of the host clubs) and their great teams for having their courses and facilities in excellent condition to host our Masters Championship and for making everyone feel welcome, it is always much appreciated and never taken for granted!

Again, we would like to thank those that volunteered as scorers and marshals, it really does make a huge difference to our Master’s Championship and it’s fair to say that would not be the great event it is without your input and support.

Once again, a huge thanks to Frank who always does a fantastic job and Darren Gill for their help, again, it was very much appreciated.

From the feedback that we have received, is that the big winners from The Invincibles Junior Masters Championship is our juniors, their families and golf in general and isn’t that what we are all striving to achieve?

If you didn’t qualify this year, it’s as simple as contesting events on The Invincibles Tour where our next event is the Peregian Junior Classic, Sunday the 13th of October, where we look forward to catching up.
